HMMMM. . . What to Write?

Ok, I admit, this is the fifth sixth time I have written something and then deleted it, which does happen to me more than I care to admit. In fact, it happens every time I sit down to write something. I want to write something memorable and profound. . . . . something that you can carry with you throughout the day—who knows? Maybe longer, right? But, this is the fifth sixth time that I have written something and then deleted it. So, what now? Well, that’s the thing — whatever memorable and profound thing that I might say has already been written and given to us in the Scripture. So, this month, I want to encourage you with two of my favorite Scripture passages. The first one is from Paul, and I always look to these words when I need to readjust my perspective on things. Let’s just say it helps me go from a half empty cup to a half full cup:

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9)

This second Scripture is a short passage from the letter of James. I prayed this Scripture every time I sat down to either write a theology paper in school -or- to write a sermon -or- even to write an article in a monthly newsletter, just like this one:

4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be maturea and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.b 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. (James 1:4-8)
