Council Corner

Separation process –
I told you in July about the intent to have the “Status Quo Stipulation and agreement” that was prepared and approved to prevent the conference from interfering with our services or use of our facilities recorded at the county courthouse. However, it turns out that according to South Carolina requirements the signatures were not witnessed by two (2) parties so it could not be recorded. This does not affect the legality of the document justit’s ability to be recorded and become a public record. A copy of the document is being maintained in the church office if anyone would like to read it.

I have also reported to you several times since May about the “Lis Pendens” document stating that a lawsuitwould be filed against our property within twenty (20) days. That document was originally filed by theconference lawyers on April 29th and has been updated every three (3) weeks or so since that time. That is until August 28th. No document has been filed to update the “Lis Pendens” since that time. The conference lawyers are more than a week late updating the document. There is no way for us to know for sure why they have not updated the document, but I can think of at least two (2) possibilities – they are close to filing the actual lawsuit against us or the original wording of the deeds with the Graniteville Company does not allow our property to beincorporated in their land trust.

Please continue to keep our church and our NCLL lawyers in your prayers as we continue down this path of separation.

Council Meeting –
Our next council meeting will be Thursday, October 23rd at 6PM in the education building. The major topic of this meeting will be to review and approve the committee and council members for our church for the next calendar year. If you would like to serve on any of our committees or the council, please contact one of the current committee or church council members.

Annual congregational meeting –
The annual congregational meeting will be Sunday, November 2nd at 3PM in the sanctuary. The main topic for this meeting will be to communicate the committee and council membership for the next calendar year but there may also be an update on the separation process or additional information about our bylaws. The actual topics for discussion have to be approved by the church council prior to the meeting so if there is a specific topic that you would like to hear more about, please contact one of the council members so that your topic can be considered for inclusion in the annual meeting.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the above information or anything else dealing with our church or the council, please don’t hesitate to contact me either in person or via the number below.
