The Story of the Birth of Jesus the Christ
Moments ago, I stepped outside and felt the chill in the morning air, which signaled the advent season that will begin this Sunday with the Hanging of the Greens worship service. The following Sunday will be filled with music that the Saint John choir has been preparing (December 10th) and on December 17th, the children will be leading the worship service. Of course, all of this is in preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ. As we enter this time of anticipation, I want to encourage you to read through the birth accounts of Jesus in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Before you read through them, set aside all that you have learned in the past about the story of Jesus’ birth and try to read through them with fresh eyes—as if you have never read them before. Let the story surprise you and come to life for the very first time. Here are the Scripture passages that tell the story of Jesus: Matthew 1:18-2:23 & Luke 1:5-2:40.
