This Season of Lent
Right now, we are in the season of Lent, which will draw to its end come Easter morning when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. As a reminder, Lent is a time for spiritual reflection and, of course, spiritual transformation—both of which I hope you are engaging during this time. Let this be a time of prayer, Scripture, fasting (if you choose), worship and spiritual renewal. The following are Scripture passages that I believe fit well during this time of Lent. Take some time to reflect and pray on these verses – Let the Holy Spirit speak to you with these words:
John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.
Daniel 9:3 – Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
Joel 2:12-13 – “Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.
James 4:8 – Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Zephaniah 3:17 – The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior, who will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love.
Psalm 33:20-22 – We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
